Blogging up is Hard to Do
On the topic of football: I thought the team looked really good. That said, Coastal is not a very high bar to set. Everyone saw the same things: The middle of the secondary obviously needs a little work. Someone got messed up on that touchdown and hopefully it takes just a film session to change it.
On a more serious note: Here's hoping that the Mauti's family is O.K. after Gustav tore though Louisiana.
Hopefully there is more to come tomorrow. I need to figure out how I'm going to get to some sporting events.

Musings and Daydreams
- The Icers will adding a former Icer to the coaching staff for this season. Bill Downey, an Icer from 2000-2004 will become a new assistaint coach. From the article it seems like the players like him already. Replacing a coach can be tough so any kind of smooth tranisition is welcome. I should pass that along to the athletic department.
- Men's soccer Forward Vincent Salvatico has a sprained MCL and will miss two weeks. This adds to the injuries suffered last year that will carry over to this year's team. Hopefully they will be able to platoon the position until Salvatico returns.
We have a Winner! Kinda...

Notes from the Underground
- The Penn State women's volleyball team will begin the season ranked number one for the first time since they won their last national title in 1999. They return all of their starters from the previous season, and the experience will be valuable with the number one bullseye on their backs.
- The Penn State men's soccer team wraps up preseason play 0-1-1 with a 2-2 tie versus Pitt. The record is deceiving for a few reasons:
Despite the results, coach Barry Gorman wasn't concerned.
"If we weren't outshooting the other team and we weren't getting the chances, then I'd be worried," he said. "But there's a lot of new guys in there, and we'll start to jell together."
There is also a new player on the team, Matheus Braga, and he's Brazilian. Insert obligatory GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! here.
- Penn State Rugby apparently has a new hall dedicated to it. I'm going to try and get out there to check it out and if I do I will do a write about about it. I really don't know much about Rugby but hopefully that changes this year.
- The week one football depth chart has been released. Let's hope the injury bug stays away because we are things could get ugly with a rash of injuries.

I think I'll Give this "Blogging" Thing a Try
Welcome to the Nittany Tide; a blog primarily about Penn State University Athletics. I am currently attending Penn State, but I’ve been a Penn State fan all my life. I’ve been a football fan for the majority of my fanhood but recently I’ve decided to take an interest in some other sports. We’ve had some success in non football sports like volleyball, wrestling, and gymnastics to name a few and they deserve coverage. I hope that here I can cover a wide range of Penn State athletics. I’m not an expert in any sports but I’m open to learning about them through feedback and research.
I cannot guarantee that PSU sports will only be covered here. Anything wacky, strange, or related to other sports teams could be posted here. I think it’s worth keeping tabs on the entirety of the sportosphere (also; grammar ain’t gonna be good all the time). I feel like I should be majestic and eloquent for my opening post but I’m not big on the fluffy stuff so this is what you get.
And in case you couldn’t figure it out yourself, this blog is not affiliated with Penn State University in any way outside of my attendance.
